  • Yes. Joining the Taupo MTB Club, via Bike Taupo, will give you a membership to Bike Taupo that allows you to ride all year round at Craters Mountain Bike Park.

  • No, the Taupo MTB Club is a separate entity from Bike Taupo and has a different role. Bike Taupo is a cycling advocacy group formed in 2002 to create a community representation for Taupo cyclists. Bike Taupo hold the permit to the Wairakei Forest. The Taupo MTB Club is an Incorporated Society and is affiliated to our national body which is Mountain Bike New Zealand (MTBNZ). Our role is to provide a range of social and competitive mountain bike events for our Club members.

  • At present you can join the Taupo MTB Club through Bike Taupo as they operate the permit to the Wairakei Forest. Follow this link and find information about the HivePass App to join the Taupo MTB Club – we receive a small portion of the Bike Taupo permit fee. This is our main source of income and enables the Club to provide our members with social and competitive events, organised Club trips and skills sessions.

  • Yes, you do need a permit to ride in the Wairakei Forest regularly or if visiting for a day. Permits are available from local bike shops, online at Bike Taupo, and at the Hub area at FourB and The Hub Café.

  • No. Your entry fee to a Taupo MTB Club event includes access to the park for time of the event only.
